Review: 'GUILE'
'MY SALVATION/ YOU HAD IT ALL'

-  Label: 'SALVATION (www.guilemusic.com)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'October 2005'

Our Rating:
GUILE are a group from the Midlands, hotly tipped to be the next big thing (according to their press release). Sounding uncannily like BRMC, but slightly more rocky, Guile's debut double A-sided single is an angry wall of sound full of echoing guitars, frantic drumming and shouted lyrics from lead singer Neal Sawyer.

'My Salvation' is probably the heavier of two tracks and mixes the sounds of Jesus And Mary Chain and Black Rebel to produce a song which is full of energy, passion and Rock (with a capital R) but is also horribly familiar. The band have sneakily ripped off the elements which made bands like Black Rebel, Jesus And Mary Chain and (early) Verve so successful but have added nothing disttinctive of their own to it, apart from possibly an anger that comes around from having lived in the Midlands for the majority of your life, resulting in a song which sounds tired, unoriginal and totally un-beguiling.

This is a fantastic single to play the 'guess which artist' game with, simply because you will win every time. But unfortunately that's about as far as it goes.
