'Something Beautiful'

Our Rating:
A steady rolling digital beat and nitty-gritty guitar leads us welcomingly into Letrix’s debut single ‘Something Beautiful’, a warm, mid-tempo indie-tronic number that leaves the listener feeling as if they are being wrapped in a cosy blanket. Wearing their hearts on their sleeve, the song is intimate and appealing. The only weakness of the song, as I see it, is the slightly overdone lead vocal which lies a bit too close to James Blunt-y MOR for my liking. Still, quite alright.

The second song here, ‘Normal’ brings to mind Talk Talk a little and that’s a good thing. Some nicely layered vocal harmonies add a dash of colour to the palette and the overall sound is both fresh and delicate. ‘Normal’ is an unashamedly assured pop song and on it, Letrix begin to sound like a finished article. More of this type of thing will surely draw a crowd, I’m not sure from where exactly, but it certainly hints at good things to come for this duo.

So, a debut to be proud of – I look forward to hearing more. Just stay away from those dashed lines in the centre of the motorway guys and everything will be ok.
