Loathe as I am to quote verbatim from press releases, it’s a brave band who describe themselves as “Neil Young piloting Steely Dan under the baton of Mr. Frank Zappa all rehearsing round at Wayne Coyne’s house” and then go on to…if not exactly live up the description, then at least engage you avidly for the next four and a half minutes with a vivid slice of pop confectionery that’s prepared to their same-but-different recipe and done to near-perfection.
Such is “Share My Blues”: JOFF WINKS BAND’S third single, and one which, like previous release “Someone Else’s Words” finds them emerging from the greater pack with skill and stealth and sounding like long-term contenders in their own right.

Whereas “…Words” had more of a tried’n’tested power pop chug about it, though, “Share My Blues” initially comes on dreamy and trippy and even briefly recalls Julian Cope circa “Fried” during the intro before opening out and getting wrapped up in a slowburning splendour all its’ own. It’s gracious, engaging and showcases a band with longevity uppermost on their agenda.
Fine single and a great dark horse to make a sound investment on.
