Our Rating:
Is it me, or does this band sound very much like the early Stone Roses – not in genre, but in the quality of vocals. There’s a slight echo and off-keyness that the vocalist has, which Ian Brown used to possess with his early music. Anyway, if that is the case, that is where any similarity ends.

Preston-based self confessed “dance-punks”, THE KBC have recently finished recording their EP with producer Tom Rixton (Placebo and Depeche Mode), producing this rather bouncy double A-side, no doubt to the joy of hair-cutted scensters across the UK. And why the Hell not? The EP is decent - granted it’s a bit similar to everything else around at the moment, but not offensively so.

They begin sounding multi-generic, with disco beats mixed in with heavy metal riffs, indie vocals, and hooky basslines - there is a spacey DIY feel to the EP, and the drumming is excellent; but by the second track “Poisonous Emblem” they start to sound very Post-Punk [i.e. probably in D-minor, repetitive, and the bass line sounds like those in New Order], and unless that’s absolutely your thing, it can become easy to lose interest.

Might be worth seeing what else KBC churn out during 2006 though.
