After the world’s quietest introduction- whispered vocals over barely there guitar strumming, ‘Patriot’ kicks into reverberating guitars, off beat drumming and half spoken, half sung lyrics. The comparisons to an early Sonic Youth are strong, and with reason to- both bands have the same lo-fi, electric garage sound, but where Akira differ, the group sound notably better with complex guitar solos, intricate drumming patterns and distorted, muffled singing, which at times bursts into shouting and feedback.
‘Patriot’ is a dark song full of anger, passion and frustration and is complemented nicely by B side ‘Atom’ a slower tune with electronic bleeps, scratches and blobs hidden below echoing guitars and clear, heartfelt lyrics. Excellent!
