The title track to THE LODGER’S EP, “Let Her Go”, is one of those rare gems, a near-perfect pop snack that starts off sounding fairly predictable: heavily inspired by bands such as Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Oh yeah, that old chestnut. Yawn… But wait, the chorus kicks in (and there is no other way to describe this), and you are thrown into decent-pop-song Heaven.
“Let Her Go” is a melody of jangly tambourines, trumpets a-la Boo Radleys, banging drums, catchy riffs galore, and heartfelt lyrics - ahhhhhh you’ll end up playing it endlessly on repeat and pissing off your housemates/parents/neighbours/cat something chronic.
Clocking in at 3.13 minutes it’s bang on the pop ballad time target. But there is no dead wood here, every section and sound is valuable. Hooray!
