This new single from Jose Gonzalez is a classic bit of singer-songwriter fare. Fingerpicked guitar and oblique vocal harmonies are the cornerstone of this release. The vocals, which are the cornerstone for this release have a discrete effect, possibly a tight phase/modulator, or good ol’ double tracking which gives it a pleasant edgeiness.
Both these songs are good traditional one-man-&-his-guitar affairs, which are undoubtedly well crafted & produced. Although it would be almost impossible to actively dislike these songs, in my mind they just don’t quite manage to tear at the soul with the intensity hoped for, and have the potential to be lost among the veritable flurry of similar sensitive souls around at the moment.
