Our Rating:
THE KBC get their sound from the marriage of techno with rock n roll, and if this release is anything to go by, they aren’t half bad at it either.

Thumping beats, synth-generated hanclapping and all manner of early 80’s paraphernalia steer this darkening retro sound on course for emotional destruction. Delicate pickup clicking arpeggios lift the whole thing clear of collision, and NOT ANYMORE thus achieves a danceable and infectious state in no time at all. Big crashes on the drums aim high and wide, this sounds every inch a winner.

“KBC” echoes the vocal, and off we go. Guitars punctuate the heavy-breathing acid thump of this signature tune, and it’s a mashed up, freaked out sound that shakes the speakers. This is one for the space cadets out there, with breaks that add psychedelic fragments, though overall it doesn’t match the quality of either mix of the title track

The Performance remix of ‘Not Anymore’ is all broken beats and engine guitars, with a lovely foot-stepping effect to the built-up rhythms. The greater the repetition, the more the hybrid noise simmers until it becomes a knocking, clanking, organic mess. The original song is set deep in this cluster of beats, and as the momentum gathers, we realise again that the blend of dance music and guitar driven rock is perfectly balanced, to stunning effect.
