Ha Harr!! This slice of high school rock from L.A’s SAY ANYTHING is an encapsulated meltdown of everything significant about teenage rebellion. Tearing through your head like a cyclone that drops bombs on the veneer of social behaviour governing your every move, it leaves the pure emotion of that first consummated love exposed and alive, so gloriously alive as the irrelevant debris of bullshit, peer group popularity ratings and fashion accessories burn in its wake like a cartoon hole of your body that’s been blasted through a brick wall.
With cod-whining adolescent vocal delivery grating through the machine gun napalm crossfire of crunching and clean electric guitar licks, several shifts in tempo imitate the palpitating heart as inhibitions are destroyed during this relentless celebration of youth. If you listen carefully, they’ve got the Brian May guitar sound throttled half to death somewhere in this all-important corridor of love and self discovery – and that Red Special is small enough to stash in one of the lockers, if they have indeed ‘borrowed’ it!

This is one of those ‘perfect pop’ moments, and it will trigger a rush of pure chemistry as your blood flows with grin-widening memories from your own treasure trove. The backing vocals are amongst the most brilliant ever heard in popular music.
In the process of being awesome without being hard to pigeonhole, it also gets full credit for showing up the efforts of a mountain of bands for the utter shit that it really is. F***ing Brilliant!
