Review: 'ROGERS SISTERS, THE'
'Why Won't You?'

-  Label: 'Too Pure'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '21st August 2006'-  Catalogue No: 'Pure198cds'

Our Rating:
‘Why Won’t You’ gathers momentum amidst whining feedback and an argument-style two part vocal crossfire that is deranged and filled with the kind of rhetorical questions and self-answered statements that kick off all the finest recurring domestic barneys. The thundering drum pattern and crystal clear, gain heavy guitar tracks are also characteristic of THE ROGERS SISTERS’ overall sound, showcased in this inane but addictive release, the second single from their debut long player ‘The Invisible Deck’.

It’s backed with the lengthy and chaotic remix of the album’s finale ‘Sooner Or Later’ which descends into a reedy pan-pipe laden tunnel of fuzzed out near-insanity. Sounding like a ritual, the same Q&A vocals are scorched deep in the mix, from its harplike, festival-irie introduction to discordant climax. Bass heavy dub styles merge with chiming doorbell sounds as the percussion taps and crashes the track deep into your consciousness, complete with steel pulse. Music box melodies steeped in skank follow the looping pattern as again the shift is not in tempo, but density.

It sounds like grunge, rocksteady and slow motion breakbeat, and is possessed with something that makes for compulsive listening after just a couple of plays. Are the big rows at home made of much the same stuff? I can’t hear plates smashing, but nevertheless, the plot thickens as tempers fray and curiosity reaches cat killing proportions.

It sure sounds like someone is getting bin-bagged to me. That kitchen knife drawer springs to mind as well. This is two-track musical psychosis.
