Our Rating:
Talk about building your house on a strong foundation!

‘Head Home’ is the delicious and poignant work of genius that comes as the third single release from the utterly brilliant MIDLAKE album ‘The Trials Of Van Occupanther’.

The breezy wide open spaces that separate their compelling and addictive sound from the rest of the field are all in place, as the simplest of pleasures are celebrated in the value-defining refrain:

“Bring me a day of honest work and a roof that never leaks, I’ll be satisfied”.

Their reworking of the progressive rock structures that fuel the gentle brilliance of the track’s arrangement wash over the nervous system beautifully as they flood the mind with possibilities and an unshakeable back-to-basics ethos. Deep-seated and filled with immense and understated power, it has never been clearer that home is where the heart is.

Material possessions have, by contrast, never meant so little.

Fans of the band will be equally intrigued and delighted by the ambient and uplifting half-step version of the album’s awesome opener, previous single ‘Roscoe’. This is yet more evidence to support their justified current position as press darlings, and I for one have absolutely no argument to the contrary.
