This is the latest single from VIVA VOCE’S current album ‘Get Yr Blood Sucked Out’. Named after a phrase that Kevin’s dad once came out with when wee Kev. was in the shit at home (as in “Move your ass faster than…..”), it struck Kevin as hysterical at the time, but the onset of snot-blowing laughter only worsened the lad’s predicament by invoking an equal amount of fury from the old man. Yes, we can all identify with that can’t we!
Described by the drumming half of this husband and wife duo as their most ‘daggers-out’ release to date, the track simply thunders along, complete with understated ‘Doo-Wop’ (“Baa-ba-ba-baa”) backing vocals (or more vaguely, an element of the slightly bizaare!). The guitar work is sledging, surfing and stunning; there is something relentless about the increasingly melting heat and the eventual acid screech of Rickenbacker feedback, broken up superbly by the weighty, ‘take a deep breath’ drum fills.

Rock n’ Roll in every sense, it’s a groove rather than a song, a cyclical riff that screeches round every tight bend in the whirlpool as it sucks you down deeper into the abyss. Whether they are soundtracking the memory of the whooping that Kevin got off his dad is unclear, but it’s a solid sound, with a pretty low down boom for a bass-free band like VIVA VOCE, but the gee-tar still has a nails-down-a-blackboard quality about it.
Mindless beauty, solidly understated.
