Our Rating:
Believe it: Amanda Bocchi (http://www.amandabocchi.com) is only 20-years-old.

You'd think such a sophisticated, mature voice would have more days on her calendar, but that is shockingly not the case. Completely written and produced by Bocchi herself, "Cereal Box Murder" combines '40s film noir atmospherics with a contemporary lyrical perspective (the title track is fairly twisted) and touches of blues and jazz.

There is something delightfully warped about hearing singing as sweet and innocent as Bocchi's deliver words as violently graphic as they are on the first cut, which is what the album was named after. It makes you pay close attention to each song and a bracing reminder that classic blues often featured enough homicidal thoughts to make today's most brutal rappers blush.

Unlike many musicians her age, Bocchi doesn't fall into the trap of doing too much on each track. Many of the songs offer minimal instrumentation, allowing her voice to be free from clutter. Bocchi's subtle acoustics on "Inherited Lies" and stripped-down acoustic blues on "Escape Music" engage the ears with a level of skill and emotion that is remarkable emanating from an artist so young.

Bocchi may only be 20, but her spirit is timeless.
