STRANGE MUTANT VIRUS are a four piece band with diverse influences, but these combine to give a Sarah Records retro feel to proceedings
‘Bardot’ is a sideways drama from the kitchen sink. The movie-star inspired low-fi (the bass is very quiet) indie jangle is introspective and goes for the sunny day feel with some success (must have been the repetitive ‘Ray-Bans’ line methinks!) This is home-made indie with a retro feel, and that’s no bad place to aim for
‘All Grown Up On T.V.’ is a melodica/brass inspired ode to childhood theme tunes (I hope!) with a beautiful, slightly distorted guitar hook line. Like the scruffy, out-of-tune ‘Are You Receiving Me’, the low-key feel is bolstered by a driving Northern Soul beat, and mostly, the lack of vocal talent, or skilled production doesn’t really matter. Somehow, the odd pitch of the poetry workshop vocals works; there are lines that will strike a chord with you here somewhere I’m sure.

‘The Way You Talk About Us’ turns an almost slow motion introduction into a freefalling aim for a distant target. There’s another good dash of violin, that comes through the speakers like a harmonica before the surprise extra gear sends the track into warp speed and another killer guitar riff steals the show.
Though it's not a patch on anything from a 20-year vintage cellar, it still has a pretty heady bouquet.
