This is a gorgeous song. If you have heard the GRAMMATICS track on the latest DANCE TO THE RADIO compilation, this is even better. It has a hard edge of clanging (it is from Leeds, after all). But it also has Owen Brinley's pure voice and a brilliant meltdown of bass and cello that gives a uniquely luxurious sound in the hook. It declares immediate independence from all others. Bright, complex, listenable, emotionally and melodically rich.
"Shadow Committee" is paired up with "Broken Wing" - an A-side quality tune that runs to five minutes ("Shadow Committee" clocking in at 4:15). It has a seductive, glistening acoustic opening, done so properly that tears could be drawn. Then it gets monumental and the voice soars. A brand new band just shouldn't hit the debut trail running this fast or sounding so accomplished. Outstanding.
