Underneath Heavens industrial black arches, VON SUDENFED performed an ear blisteringly delicious set.
Mark.E.Smith had in the past written off band collaborations as something of hippyish whimsey. However in Von Sudenfed he has intuitively got hold of two musicians, Andi Toma and Jan St Werner, ordinarily members of left-wing German electronica outfit Mouse on Mars, who compliment his idiosyncratic delivery perfectly, now M.O.M's ambient warblings have been thrown clean out of the window to be replaced with dynamic acid-electro basslines and crackling Techno percussions.
Now in his 50's MES is generally forgiven by the crowd for not having the stamina of a younger less drug-addled man, as he continually meanders and wanders off stage, like some absent-minded party-goer with a prostate problem, his drawl continuing eerily from somewhere back-stage.

Combine this with Toma and St Werners energy as they drive out the deliciously electric beats via an awesome sound system, and this odd party really starts to swing as Smith returns and deviously knob twiddles gear, creating general feedback mayhem to the immense amusement of the high-vis security guard on stage, who wouldn't look out of place as a fourth member of this very curious act.
So it all adds up, as of course it should do, to an extremely satisfying night for the curious onlookers of this recently delivered and twisted disco-baby.
