'Love Around Here/The Horizon'

-  Label: 'Promo'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'Monday 5th November 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'www.myspace.com/guilemusic'

Our Rating:

This promo release from Cannock garage outfit GUILE follows the band’s support slots on the Howling Bells and Stephen Fretwell tours earlier this year. The 4-piece have also provided support for the 5 o’Clock Heroes and Amusement Parks On Fire as well as having two UK tours of their own wedged under their belt. Idols Spacemen 3 have also been forthcoming with praise for their music as their impressive cv continues to grow.

The rather lo-fi mix of ‘Love Around Here’ contains elements of space rock that echo and buzz within a reverberating cacophony of feedback. Singer Neal Sawyer’s shouted vocals are earnest and 100% sincere within the true-to rock n’roll din (with considerable emphasis placed on the ‘roll’), and the shimmering melodies gurgle within a twanging central heartbeat: overall, the song is reminiscent of The Jesus And Mary Chain’s earlier work.

‘The Horizon’ has the same atmospheric half-step and distinct, scraping echo. It’s a drifting number that grinds almost to a halt as it trawls the depths, leaving you clinging to the repeated vocal refrain as it slowly becomes a mantra.

If you like your rock n’roll atmospheric, then you will love this release, which is available for download via itunes.
