Review: 'MARIE, KATIE'
'Share My Air'

-  Label: 'KM Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '2007'

Our Rating:
Not everything from Michigan has to do with Eminem, the White Stripes, or even Motown Records.

After all, singer/songwriter Katie Marie (http://www.kmrecordsonline.com) follows none of their trails. On the absolutely fetching album "Share My Air," Marie delivers melodically attractive and emotionally driven pop with traces of country, R&B, and '70s Easy Listening. Actually, there's even a blues-fueled piece, "Walk Away," wherein Marie aims for the swagger of a young Bonnie Raitt and captures it with sparkling self-confidence.

"Share My Air" is fairly mellow, volume-wise. "Stop Girl" and "Fall Into My Arms" are warm piano pieces that highlight the colours of Marie's magnificent singing. Her voice really comes alive on these tracks, brimming with true feeling. For a while there I stopped paying attention to the words and just let Marie's voice comfort my ears. Her vocals are so soothing. "Hope In Your Eyes" inches closely into country territory, but it is more joyful and catchy than much of what Nashville is knocking out.

Probably my favorite cut on the CD is "The Real Me." There is a spiritual quality to "The Real Me" that comes across in Marie's yearning tone, as if she's calling out to God. However, you can interpret it any way that you wish, and it doesn't matter, really. In the end, you'll simply be touched by it, and that's the main reason why this LP should be in your collection.
