Review: 'LODGER, THE'
'THE GOOD OLD DAYS'

-  Label: 'Bad Sneakers Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'MAy 5th 2008'-  Catalogue No: 'BADSNEAK14 (7 inch vinyl single)'

Our Rating:
This euphoric burst of effervescent pop glee is such fun that Ben Siddall's compulsive melancholy does nothing but underline how spiffingly cheerful the damn thing is.

Singles were often this good in the early 80s, but the format has struggled to find artful types who could belt out a cracking riff, an ear worm tune and universal lyrics that demanded such repeat repeat repeat. This does it for me. Significant others seem to react the same way.

Ben Siddall has been chipping away down in the pop diamond mine this last few years, and this, dear reader, is breakthrough time. I can't think of any kind of music fiend who wouldn't stroke a chin, twitch a hip, grin like a loon, dance, sing and do "Oh yes!" moves as if Orange Juice, Pigbag and The Thompson Twins were all back in town, with better haircuts and some of their mates.

It's a track from a forthcoming album ("Life Is Sweet"), but it just cried out to be a single, and thank goodness the decent thing has been done. The cover, bright as e numbers - but looking brainy as books, holds a nice heavy chunk of vinyl with a 4 and a half minute remix by The Spills on't flip side. Dancetastic.
