This band are an absolute perk of this reviewing lark. Last month I received a copy of 'Wolves' the debut single by The Accidental. At first I thought it sounded a little bit dull, but better than Ian Brown. Then I listen again, and it started to grow. Four listens down the line and I was hooked. Fans of Tunng, The Memory Band & The Bicycle Thieves will be happy, for The Accidental are a sum of those parts, and they won't have let down their following at all.
The gods of good fortune sent me the next single the other week, and the same thing happened. Instantly, it sounds like a relatively mediocre song. But even the smallest amount of familiarity reaps great rewards. It's alt-folk, the ideas are simple but it's all so beautiful. It grows as a song with more and more layers of vocals been added as the song progresses - the whole thing is a lush lullaby that soothes you. It makes you want to sway along and smile, and it makes me want to use adjectives unbecoming of a man. At any point this song could become dull, but there is a special spark between the musicians in this band that just hits the nail on the head when it comes to making this sort of music.

This is a fairly good idea of everything that is great about The Accidental. As a result of these singles, I've bought the album and it's amazing. One of the finds of the year, and it makes me grateful to be reviewing. Hell, I could even tackle a pile of MOR singer-songwriters on the back of this!
