Review: 'KAPLAN, JONNY & THE LAZY STARS'
'SEASONS'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '2008'

Our Rating:
Baptized as Jonathan, Mr Kaplan wisely decided Jonny sounded more rock and roll.

The devil is in the details and the details here relate to old school roots rock that proudly wears its influences (Stones, Dylan, The Band etc) on its sleeve. Kaplan is an L.A. resident but this album was finished off in Nashville.

You might call it timeless, although unashamedly retro would be more accurate.

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the songs or the performance but the musical journey along the Highways 61 and Route 66 has been taken so many times before it's hard not to compare it unfavourably with those who got there first.
