Review: 'Renfro'
'Mathematics'

-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'September 2008'

Our Rating:
One thing is certain - you won't hear many albums like Renfro's Mathematics this year. And this is a very good thing.

They've put together an album of beguiling electro composed of hazy vocals and layer upon layer of found sound trickery. For those of you not familiar with your found sound, the band have recorded sounds from a variety of sources outside the realm of musical instruments. Bursting bubble wrap and burning plastic make an appearance on the record - although you'd never really know as the sounds are contorted and warped into other percussive noises. Amongst all of this though, you can't escape the notion that this is, deep down, a pop record. You could actually sing along.

As the press release shouts – ‘A kind of electronic-alternative-gospel-folk for the 21st Century’. Spot on.
