Review: 'FIREFALL'
'WALK MORE SOFTLY (single)'

-  Label: 'Winged Horse Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'October 2008'

Our Rating:
This eco-friendly single has been chosen as the theme for the Go Green Initiative Alliance,an organsiation which works in US schools to educate children, teachers, parents and communities about the urgent need for higher level of environmental awareness.

The alliance's founder and CEO, Jill Buck, chose the song for its motivational message hoping that "it could be the equivalent of 'I'd like to teach the world to sing' for our times!". That song, if you recall, urged the world to live "in perfect harmony", a banal and simplistic message that was also subsequently used to sell Coca Cola!

The intentions behind the song and the alliance may be sound but the state of the planet surely demands a more hard hitting message than merely to tell us "we need to treat each other good" and to "validate worth".

Jill Buck admires the way Jock Bartley's lyrics transcend politics but to my mind overlooks the fact that the premise of the song is fundamentally flawed.

Urging people to 'walk more softly' is merely to imagine that significant change is possible without treading on anyone's toes. When the very future of the planet is at stake I seriously doubt that this is the case.
