Faster and more electronic than the original version, Jacknife Lee has enhanced the existing groove factor and ratcheted it up to the max. The result: frenetic electro programming melds with poppy vocals to produce a number that’s driving, relentless and – I say this as someone who abhors clubbing – 100% danceable. When I say 100% danceable, I mean it’s so infectious that I’d challenge even the most curmudgeonly rock purist to keep their feet entirely still for the whole duration of this track.
It’s certainly a significant departure from the day-job for Simon Neil, who’s more commonly found fronting Biffy Clyro. But combining comedic fake lore and mysticism with a knack for catchy tunes, infused with a distinctly Scots flavour, there’s a very real possibility that Marmaduke Duke could be the KLF for the new millennium.
