Review: 'Twin Atlantic'
'You're Turning Into John Wayne'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '7th September 2009'

Our Rating:
I blame Placebo. Ok, that's a bit harsh. I like Placebo, a lot, but I don't have any time for the countless bands who've emulated their formula.

Twin Atlantic are all about sensitive, earnest lyrics delivered in a rather high and somewhat nasaly whine, and big guitars. The song's sentiment - a swipe at the dominance of American culture - is admirable enough, but the delivery's rather US college rock. This defeats the object of the track somewhat. Add that to the fact that the vocals are too high in the mix - or the guitars too low, depending on how you look at it - to be remotely threatening or pose any kind of antithesis to the culture they're criticising and you end up with a rather pointless effort, really.
