Review: 'SENNEN'
'Destroy Us EP'

-  Label: 'Hungry Audio'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '30th November 2009'-  Catalogue No: 'YUMS18'

Our Rating:
A gentle electronic tinkling heralds the arrival of 'In,' the opener on this six-tracker from Norfolk's SENNEN. It's a mere two minutes long, but paves the way for the title track, a jangly post-rock indie number (would this be a new genre? Post indie, perhaps?) that coasts along on a looping guitar signature, topped with melodic if slightly bland vocals.

The midpoint is occupied by a cover of New Order's 'Bizarre Love Triangle.' It's good. But then, they're working with great material. SENNEN's version is janglier, more overtly indie, more spacious than the original, but it's still recognisable.

'The Distance Between A and B' slows the pace at first, but eventually builds to a bluster of clean, shimmering guitars against a flurry of percussion that leans heavily on Explosions in the Sky, but is pretty good nevertheless.

After this, it's a wash of fuzzed-out indie blandness, more of the same only less inspired, with 'Figurine' leading into 'Out' without either really going anywhere or demanding attention.
