'On Up!' never stays still for long, beginning with a rapid-fire chugging electro synth bass sound before the heavyweight percussion kicks in, along with a spiralling analogue synth sound that subsequently provides the axis around which the various movements and incidental sounds that weave their way in and out and in again are constructed. It's an inspired collision of dance and electro pop with rock drumming providing a robust rhythm, and remarkably effective it is too.
'Two Wires' is a little less off-the-wall, a sort of Sparksian Krautrock hybrid with additional bleeps and noodles, and there's some whacky off-key playing and crazy percussion about halfway through that further demonstrates Vowels' off-centre approach to synth pop disco.
Quirky, fun and ultimately groovesome.
