Straight outta Seattle, Goldie Wilson's stated appreciation for classic pop records of yesteryear (Mamas and the Papas, Zombies and the Motown back-catalogue via Bob Dylan) and less overtly stated appreciation of 80s films isn't just so much hot air and it's evident that they've done their homework. That isn't to say that this, their debut full-length release, sounds like the works of their idols by numbers, but shows that lessons have been learned from pop history.
There's a choppy, post-punk edge to 45 RPMs, but that isn't to say that for its spikier tone and grittier guitars it's by any means bereft of hooks. 'Bad News Baby' also has a degree of attack and a rockabilly backbeat. Elsewhere, there's an affable nature to the tuneful 60s beat-flavoured songs that form the bedrock of Goldie Wilson's cogent sound.

The warm, summery vocal harmonies are natural and sweet-sounding, without cloying or sounding excessively sugary, and the tracks are all well-crafted and concise pop nuggets. What's more, there's nothing contrived or dated about the way the band have assimilated their influences, as they successfully realign the best elements of the last 50 years of popular music to create an album that's fresh and, above all, enjoyable.
