'TRANSYLVANIA TIME'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '25th January 2010'

Our Rating:
Ever wonder what happened to The Barbs? I must admit, neither had I until this single was sent my way. It would seem that at least two of them have formed What Will Jesus Drive?, and that they’re about to launch some more music towards us.

‘Transylvania Time’ is the first single from forthcoming album ‘Black an' Blue,’ and the off-kilter brattishness of The Barbs is on full display. It’s a slightly silly song, good natured punk with a simple and catchy chorus. Each vocal is held together by a sneering riff or ear-splitting synth-line, mocking the hungover lead singer who is piecing her brain together slowly through the lyrics.

It’s fun, it’s something you can relate to and despite everything, this opening gambit feels hopelessly optimistic. Having not been anticipating such a return, I’m pleased to say it’s a welcome one. There’s always room for punk with a warm fireplace.
