Just recently, I've been coming to realise just how cynical I am. Watching the news, I find myself shouting at the television, annoyed at the way the media are manipulating the headlines and all the rest.
When I'm not complaining about that, I'm bemoaning the fact that so much contemporary music is crap. But then, it was ever thus: the 90s might have spawned grunge, but that was merely a substantial counterculture in the face of the dance explosion. Punk and new wave existed simultaneously with bad disco and prog... and so on. There was a lot of crap around in the 80s, too. The Housemartins were crap. This sounds an awful lot like The Housemartins, in that it's limp, bland and a bit northern. However, The Lodger have some additional brass. That's progress for you.
If this lot were my lodger, I'd be serving notice on them right about now.
