Review: 'TIGER PLEASE'
'Seasons EP'

-  Label: 'Walnut Tree Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '19th April 2010'

Our Rating:
There's a curious moment in the middle of 'Summer in the House of Confessions' when there's a sharp left turn, and we're treated to a few bars of Latin-tinged strangeness. Not that there's anything inherently strange about flamenco per se, but midway through a Travis meets Keane soul-searching, reflective anthemic ballad, it's pretty bloody weird.

So, just when I'm starting to think I've got Tiger Please pegged, they go and do something quite unexpected. 'Autumn Came the Fall' is a big, hairy Biffy Clyro-style rock-out - with strings, and as such, is nothing like the track before. There's no shortage of beef to 'Winter and the Storyteller,' which is also brimming with guitar heroics that are a bit much at times. Still, it's a fine combination of meat and melody, with room for a middle eight that's pure U2.

Perhaps, then, the biggest surprise is how similar 'Spring and its Offerings' is. Complete with a nagging, looping guitar line and a preposterously anthemic chorus, it's like 'Where the Streets Have No Name' played by Kings of Leon. No, I'm not actually saying that's such a good thing, but I'm sure a fair few people would disagree.
