Review: 'SUPERIMPOSERS, THE'
'THE BEACH'

-  Label: 'WONDERFULSOUND'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '19th July 2010'-  Catalogue No: 'WSDCD3'

Our Rating:
I've been musing on the importance of The Bible in Rock'n'Roll today, but another lesser spotted ingredient in Rock's DNA is surely serendipity. Theoretically, if John hadn't met Paul at the church fair in Woolton, none of us may be here now.

Stretching a point, if it wasn't for a similar chance meeting at a joke shop somewhere on the south coast of England, we probably wouldn't have THE SUPERIMPOSERS. Historically not as seismic an incident, perhaps, but the band's new single 'The Beach' suggests kismet was on song that day, because this is an excellent single.

Here are the facts. The Superimposers are basically Dan Solo and Miles Copeland, who I'm assuming is not the American Post-Punk mogul and brother to Stewart from The Police. They have previously released a début album, though I didn't have the pleasure. For their forthcoming second, 'Sunshine Pops!' they have teamed up with canny producer Shawn Lee (Money Mark, Tommy Guerrero) and 'The Beach' is a very lovely taster from it.

If 'The Beach' is anything like representative, 'Sunshine Pops!' sounds a suitable title. 'The Beach' is a very classy affair indeed, very svelte and sophisticated in a Morricone/ John Barry sorta way, with a little Beach Boys and Emmitt Rhodes lobbed in for good measure. Crucially, though, for all the strings, vibes, timpanis and tambourines, 'The Beach' pulls off a similar trick to the one achieved by The Last Shadow Puppets in that it has a modern day energy and its' luxurious backdrop is far too good to be mere pastiche.

In a nutshell then, a nigh-on perfect summer hit. Bring that album on.
