Review: 'Garforth & Myers'
'Bonfires EP'

-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: 'December 2009'

Our Rating:
I feel sorry for Andy Seward & Keith Angel, who play Double Bass / Bouzouki and Drums / Percussion respectively on this EP. They're credited with the arrangements and additional music for the four tracks, and they names appear in the copyright details of the EP. Yet the band's name gives all the glory to Rory Garforth and Adam Myers, who both play acoustic guitar and sing. They do these things well, weaving spellbindingly delicate melodies and harmonies with reflective, melancholy lyrics that are emotive and thoughtful.

However, this is only half the story, as the restrained percussion and further instrumentation that augments the guitar / vocal axis combine to create a misty autumnal atmosphere that sets 'Bonfires' apart from the countless other melodic wistful-sounding acoustic works coming out at the moment. 'Mirrors' is a magnificently accomplished piece of chamber-folk, while there's a haunting melancholy quality to 'The Past.' Exquisite.
