Review: 'CHIEF'
'Modern Rituals'

-  Album: 'Modern Rituals' -  Label: 'Domino'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '20th September 2010'-  Catalogue No: 'WIGCD24/WICLP248/WIC248D'

Our Rating:
So often I read reviews that waffle on about 'beautifully crafted wistful pop songs' and 'luscious, layered harmonies' and all the rest, only to discover that the band sounds like The La's or whoever. And here we have Chief, who boast 'soaring melodies, shimmering guitars, lovelorn lyrics and heart-stopping harmonies.'

There are some pleasant Byrds-like harmonies on the gently lilting 'Wait For You,' and there are some pleasant wistful indie-pop moments to be found across the ten tracks on Chief's debut album. Mostly, though, it's a collection of mid-tempo, gentle indie-folk-pop with a bit of jangle, a bit of Shed Seven, a bit of Bluetones... Yup, just what the world needs.
