Review: 'Brights, The'
'Footsteps'

-  Label: 'LemonPop UK'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '22nd November 2010'-  Catalogue No: 'LPOP001'

Our Rating:
Here I was, all set for a quip about 'The Dulls' being another generic random plural preceded by the definite article and as inappropriately named as The Thrills (really, they should have been sued under the trade descriptions act), when 'Footsteps' completely catches me on the wrong foot, so to speak. Not because it's the most dazzlingly original record I've heard all year, but simply because it doesn't sound like every other record I've heard recently.

Referencing The Smiths in both the lyrics and the musical style, The Brights serve up some clean, crisp old-school indie, and even if they do remind me ever so slightly of The Housemartins (a band I really dislike with a passion) in places, the quality shines through.
