Review: 'TEN'
'Lowlands (EP)'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '18th October 2010'

Our Rating:
TEN are based in Leeds and describe themselves as a band but to all intents seem to be the solo project of Dominic Deane.

After all, the live 'band' features only one other member - Jonny Fryer.

This six track EP is billed as a homage to the fens; a flat and fertile area of eastern England.

The instrumentals blend classical and acoustic instruments and feature simple piano, violin, acoustic guitar arrangements with just a hint background drone.

On first listening you expect the tracks to build but, instead, they remain still and uncluttered.

Like the cover image of a barn in a field there are hardly any distractions.

Searching for the right words to describe the thirty minutes of such minimalist and uneventful music seems a little redundant .

I'll confine myself to five adjectives: quiet - melancholy - still - calming - soporific.

Nothing much to write home about but a nice enough record all the same.
