Review: 'Herr Styler'
'Double Sided Paper (EP)'

-  Label: 'La Tebwa'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '24th January 2011'

Our Rating:
Look, I know I've mentioned this before, and appreciate that the distinctions between singles, EPs, mini-albums and albums have become blurred to the point of dissolution, but let me say once and for all that a release containing nine tracks and with a running time of almost three-quarters of an hour is not, I repeat, NOT a sodding EP!

I probably wouldn't mind nearly so much if it wasn't bloody awful. The press release describes it as 'a record full of fun and quirkiness with huge tunes that go off on weird and wonderful tangents.' By which it actually means it's horrible noisy electro-disco of the worst kind. Relentlessly thudding beats, hypnotically monotonous basslines and beeps so repetitive they're probably capable of brainwashing the listener in under fifteen minutes. In fact forget brainwashing, it's more like an aural lobotomy. Fun? Torture more like. And that's before we even get to the remixes...

So, yeah, it's irritating and too knowingly hip for its own good, and if I had to pick a 'Herr Styler' that described this painful cack, it would be the Geek Pie.
