Review: 'What Would Jesus Drive'
'Fragile Mansions EP'

-  Label: 'EyeSeeSound'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '7th February 2011'

Our Rating:
What Would Jesus Drive (surely there should be a question mark after that: it's not a statement, however you alter the inflection) are all about energetic, fizzy, guitar-driven indie rock with punk attitude, and about depicting the everyday in all of its grimy, sordid detail. 'Dirty Old Week' is full of booze and vomit and frustration set to a guitar line that's both driving and choppy and most reminiscent of early Gang of Four. It's pretty good, but not as good as Gang of Four, and there's something just a little awkward about Tim Box's vocals (and something mildly annoying about Amy Casey’s squeaky vocals).

'Watching Girls Fighting' has hooks in abundance and an immediacy that’s hard to deny: on first play, it feels classic, familiar even. It may be because it sounds rather like 'Eaton Rifles', though. Even so... 'Victory' is in many respects the most interesting track of the bunch, and stands out because it's radically different. Stripped down and built around a low-slung bassline, and slower, Casey's vocal is at once sultry and menacing. The result is moody and stark, and suggests there's more to WWJD than spiky power-pop.
