Review: 'Exeloume'
'Fairytale of Perversion'

-  Album: 'Fairytale of Perversion' -  Label: 'VICISOLUM'
-  Genre: 'Thrash Metal' -  Release Date: '13th May 2011'-  Catalogue No: 'VSP019'

Our Rating:
If a band or record company were trying to figure out an album title that said – or growled from the bottom of a pit – 'Norwegian thrash metal', and someone in the room suggested 'Fairytale of Perversion', the chances are there would be an absolute consensus. Exeloume deliver exactly the album that the cover suggests, with tales or gore and violent retribution played relentlessly hard and fast, and and titles like 'Ignorance is Bliss'; 'Share My Pain'; 'Hellhole'; 'Psychopath'; 'Faceless Children' and 'Our Poisonous Creation'.

It's blastbeats and fretwankery in abundance from start to finish and the deadpan snarling vocals are really only as scary as the cliché cartoon cover art, but c'mon, who really listens to this sort of thing expecting something off the wall and inventive, or for its high-brow art value? I can't berate Exeloume for failing to reinvent the wheel, and getting worked up over the iffy imagery on the sleeve would be equally pointless. It's not my scene, and the guitar heroics really do start to wear after a while, but there you have it.
