Review: 'Serph'
'Heartstrings'

-  Album: 'Heartstrings' -  Label: 'Noble Label'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '15th April 2011'-  Catalogue No: 'NBL-201'

Our Rating:
These guys can certainly play, they could probably arrange a handful of elastic bands into a veritable symphony, but none of this necessarily equates to an album that's entirely engaging.

If 'Shine' is the jazz-infused sound of summer sun and 'Luck' combines the orchestral with the whimsical with the addition of a disco groove, then it's equally true to say that there's so much going on that it's often hard to really get a handle on things. Without any distinct or definable trajectory - and it's not that I can't handle music that lacks linearity - the compositions resemble a selection of noodles and doodles, strung together over a beat and sewn up with some sweeping strings and an occasional dash of brass. Stylistically, it's just about coherent enough, but musically, it's just too bitty.
