Review: 'Zoo Zero'
'Green Apples (EP)'

-  Label: 'Crest Cont. Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '12th March 2012'

Our Rating:
A bit of a difficult one this. It starts promisingly, with a burst of choppy guitar, but then the vocals make an appearance and it all goes rather lame. There’s some explosive drumming and guitar feedback that’s too ferocious to control, and there’s definitely some edge to not only lead track ‘Green Apples’ but the other two supporting tracks, but the singing just comes across a bit weak. It’s a pity, because the songs themselves are pretty good, reminiscent of later Wire.

I have a hunch – which at present I can’t validate – that they’re a decent live act, and that the studio has stripped the songs of their fire. The guitars and drums convey volume and energy; the vocals are too high in the mix and just don’t sit well. Promising, for sure, but somewhat lacking.
