The urgent guitar strum that forms the instrumental lead in ‘Left in Shadow’, the second single by to be taken from Killing Fields of Ontario’s second album, ‘How the World Ends’, contrasts with the deliberate strings and more sedate vocals. Thoughtful, delicate and gentle, it’s a deft piece of songwriting coupled with a sensitive execution that makes for a song that could reasonably described as ‘a grower’. It mightn’t have classic quality, or even be all that exciting, but it’s undoubtedly got mass appeal.
