Review: 'Miccoli'
'Idle Stranger'

-  Album: 'Idle Stranger' -  Label: 'AFA'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '8th April 2013'

Our Rating:
Miccoli have been on the radar for a while. Having played at the Viper rooms and every other key rock venue across America and also UK festivals including Wireless, for a small band theyve been making a big name for themselves. Having gained the support of renowned producer John McLaughlin, it was he who worked with them on their upcoming EP release Idle Stranger. Despite already being signed to AFA records, theyve also attracted the interest of both Sony and Universal, and landed a sponsorship deal.

Having just listened to the upcoming EP, its clear why there is so much hype. Theres a freshness to Miccolis sound. Theyve been previously compared to the likes of Snow Patrol and ColdPlay and to a certain extent thats agreeable. They certainly fit into the pop-rock genre thats timelessly popular, and also have impressive song-writing skills; but to directly compare them to anyone would be a disservice to the band, they have a distinctive sound of their own that’s totally unique and actually the standout moments from the EP are the acoustic tracks.

Whilst the radio edits and dance remixes are catchy in an obvious way; there is a subtlety to Fear and the acoustic version of Idle Strangers thats much more lovable. Its a quiet defiance that comes through the tracks, and from a relatively young band it screams of maturity far beyond their years. The acoustic tracks also allow the great tone of Alessandros lead vocal to be more fully appreciated; and the vocal harmonies (which have authenticity that can only be heard between artists from one family) to really steal the focus.

Overall, Idle Stranger is a great debut from this upcoming band; we cant wait to hear what they do next.
