Keen contenders for worst band name of the month Get Off My Shoes have been making waves on the mainland and have scored support slots with the likes of The Subways. It figures: their style is bouncy guitar pop. With a dash of teen angstiness and a splash of wide-eyed optimism, they’re all about the emotional highs and lows as expressed through surging choruses. A dance groove and wayward synth crunch are woven into an otherwise bland slice of punk pop on ‘We’re Going Down But We Don’t Care’, and ‘I Was Told a Lie Once’ features clumsy programmed beats in an otherwise bland slice of punk pop, and... you get the idea. Their sound is very now, just it’s equally very any time since the mid 90s, and I don’t doubt they’ve got the potential to be huge. However, the EP’s title says it all really, and while the band’s name might work over in Belgium, I can’t help but wonder if it will prove to be an impediment to their breaking over here.
