Review: 'Theatre Royal'
'Three Ships EP'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '25th March 2013'

Our Rating:
Hot on the heels of their second album ‘At the End of a River, the Sea...’ released in November, Theatre Royal emerge not with a straight forward single release, but a full EP.

The lead track is one of the album’s choice cuts rerecorded with a full band instrumentation and works well. It’s accompanied by complimentary and contrasting material that could fairly be described as solid, blues rockin’ indie that conjures a certain nostalgia, both in its lyrical content and imagery, and in its ‘classic’ style.

As with their previous output, the standard of songwriting is consistent and definitely a cut above. ‘Learning How to be Idle’ brings a laid-back country hue to an overtly reflective muse. The jaunty jangle of ‘(Just Like) A Sunny Day in June’ wraps up this five-tracker with a glorious piece of guitar pop that could almost make you believe it was summer.
