George Demure is the man formerly known as George Thomson, who hails from Edinburgh and used to go under the name of The Plastic Avengers. George was at the forefront of the Scottish electronic music scene before relocating to London eight years ago.

The single, ‘Liza / Golden Brown’ is the first single release from his album ‘The Drifter’ which is out now and available from Mahuta Recordings.

‘Liza’ which apparently is ‘an ode to a great, insane Hollywood icon’ is a good slice of danceable electro-pop with a nice line in obsessive lyrics: -

“Liza do you dream about me? Liza do you need my company?”

This is backed with an electro cover of The Stranglers’ ‘Golden Brown’, which I thought would have been an unlikely cover version. However, it suits George’s voice very well and has been adapted nicely into an electronic reworking.

This is definitely one to buy if you’re a fan of bands like DAF, Soft Cell, or earlier work by Depeche Mode. If this had been released in the summer of 1981, I have no doubts that it would have been a top ten smash. Today’s listening public could do far worse than check this out. A minor summer disco classic anyone?
